First-Year Student Scholarships
The College of Pharmacy awards merit scholarships to incoming students enrolled full-time in the Doctor of Pharmacy Program based on their PharmCAS application and other criteria including but not limited to academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to serving others.
Scholarships are awarded for a total of two semesters (one academic year) and are not available for summer semesters. These scholarships, in varying amounts, are renewable for up to four academic years.
Expendable and Endowed Scholarships
The College of Pharmacy is grateful for the financial assistance that it can provide to students each academic year. The generosity of donations made by alumni and friends of the College make this possible.
All current and incoming students are strongly encouraged to apply. Expendable and endowed scholarship selections are applications based and they are made by the College’s Honors, Awards, and Scholarships Committee. Scholarships are awarded for a total of two semesters (one academic year) and are not available for summer semesters. Scholarship amounts vary.
A. Constantinides Scholarship is funded in memory of A. A. Constantinides, an alumnus of the College of Pharmacy, longtime community pharmacy practitioner and owner of Concord Pharmacy. This scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates an interest in independent community pharmacy.
Leroy and Linda M. Toliver Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
Vincent Lopez Scholarship is awarded to students based upon academic performance, financial need and involvement in professional or community activities.
American Cyanmid Medical Research Scholarship is awarded to minority students who excel academically and have expressed an interest in research and the pharmaceutical industry.
Anne Morris and Carlton Henderson Scholarship is awarded to a student in the third- professional year with an interest in industrial pharmacy or community pharmacy.
APhA-ASP Mercer Chapter J. Grady Strom, Jr. Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a student who has been active in the College’s American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) Chapter for at least two years.
Bal-Ram Patel Family Scholarship is awarded to a second- or third-professional year student with demonstrates financial need. Preference is given to students who demonstrate leadership in a student organization and an entrepreneurial spirit.
Ben S. Moore Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
Bradford and Song Loo Endowed Scholarship is awarded to the president of the third- professional year.
Brandall S. and Dana Lovvorn Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
Brian and Mary Crabtree Pharmacy Scholarship is awarded to first-generation students who have a strong academic profile with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Recipients of this scholarship are expected to sign a promissory note that they will use the amount awarded to reduce the total amount borrowed for tuition and fees required to attend the College of Pharmacy.
Brian L. Robinson Memorial Endowed Scholarship is awarded to students who exhibit integrity, an excellent work ethic, a commitment to succeed in the profession of pharmacy and good moral character, ethical or spiritual values. Preference given to any student employed by or rotating through the Northside Hospital pharmacy system.
Buren L. Baldwin Memorial Scholarship is in memory of Buren L. Baldwin, an alumnus of the College of Pharmacy, a longtime community pharmacy practitioner and owner of Oak Grove Pharmacy. This scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
Charles A. Callaway Endowed Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
Crescent Community Pharmacy Scholarship is awarded to a third- or fourth-year student who demonstrates an interest in community pharmacy.
Curtis L. and Ola Pickels Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
CVS/pharmacy Scholarship is awarded to bilingual students based on academic performance, patient counseling skills and their level of interest in community pharmacy practice.
David J. Simpson Memorial Scholarship is in memory of David J. Simpson, Jr., an alumnus of the College of Pharmacy. This scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates an interest in independent community pharmacy or pharmacy entrepreneurship.
Dean Johnnie Early Award is given to the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) President.
Donald C. Raines Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
Dr. G. Van and Vinta J. Greene Scholarship is awarded based on academic performance, financial need and involvement in professional or community activities.
Dr. Lakesha M. Butler and Dr. Isaac Butler Expendable Scholarship is awarded to African- American students enrolled in the College of Pharmacy, with preference given to students who have expressed an interest in a career in academia.
Elizabeth and Tom Perkins Scholarship is awarded a Georgia or Alabama resident.
Elton and Adeline Mather Scholarship is awarded based on academic performance and financial need.
Eugene L. Argo Memorial Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
Evelyn Peacock and George W. Payne, Jr., Scholarship is awarded based on academic performance and financial need.
Evelyn Sheffield Thompson Scholarship is awarded based on academic ability, leadership qualities and financial need.
Georgia Pharmacy Foundation Carlton Henderson Scholarship is funded by the Georgia Pharmacy Foundation and is awarded based on academic achievement and commitment to pharmacy in the state of Georgia.
Georgia Pharmacy Foundation Neal L. Pruitt, Sr., Scholarship is funded by the Georgia Pharmacy Foundation and is awarded based on leadership abilities.
Georgia Pharmacy Foundation Regina Baird Scholarship is funded by the Georgia Pharmacy Foundation and is awarded based on academic achievement and commitment to pharmacy in the state of Georgia.
Gregory Stajich Healthy Dose of Humor in Pharmacy Scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in the College of Pharmacy. To be considered for the scholarship, an eligible student must submit an essay of no more than 250 words describing a humorous anecdote that portrays an aspect of patient care.
Harold C. Todd Memorial Endowed Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
Harriet Jean Hatton Scholarship is awarded based on academic performance and financial need.
Hewitt W. Matthews Endowed Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
M. Smith Scholarship is awarded to legacy students with an entrepreneurial spirit. Legacy students are children (or from the family) of pharmacists who own or operate an independent pharmacy.
Wayne Black Scholarship is awarded to students who are active church members. Preference will be given to residents of Paulding County.
James Bruno Scholarship is awarded based upon academic performance and financial need.
James McCready Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
James W. Bartling Scholarship is awarded to students with demonstrated financial need who are employed.
Jo Davidson Reger Scholarship is awarded based on academic performance and demonstrated leadership.
Jolayne Woo Hirano Scholarship is funded in memory of Jolayne Woo Hirano, an alumna of the College of Pharmacy. This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student.
Wayne and Patty Jones Endowed Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
Kaiser Permanente Endowed Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
Kappa Epsilon Scholarship is awarded to active members of the Alpha Delta Chapter of the Kappa Epsilon Professional Pharmacy Fraternity with a 3.0 or higher-grade point average, a minimum of 85 percent petal points and an outstanding commitment to sisterhood.
Kappa Psi 99 Hands Scholarship is awarded to active brothers of the Gamma Psi Chapter of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity who are second- or third-professional year students.
Kenneth T. and Susan W. Miller Scholarship is awarded to Georgia residents who intend to practice pharmacy in Georgia.
Kentucky Student Scholarship is awarded to a student from Kentucky involved in professional and community activities.
Knoll Pharmaceuticals Scholarship is awarded to a student who excels in the areas of academics and leadership.
Lane Naylor Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
Leo A. Micheletto Jr., Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students with interests in clinical pharmacy and postgraduate residency training.
Loudelle M. Cooper Scholarship is awarded to students from southern Georgia with an interest in independent community pharmacy.
David and Fleming U. Upshaw Endowed Scholarship is awarded to students with a 3.0 or higher-grade point average who demonstrate financial need.
Mattie L. Compton Scholarship is awarded to African-American students enrolled in the College of Pharmacy who are in their second, third or fourth years of student who have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher.
McKesson Corporation Scholarship in Healthcare is awarded to students with a 3.0 or higher-grade point average with an expressed interest in community pharmacy.
Meredith Blalock Scholarship is awarded to elected student leaders with expressed interest in postgraduate education who have made positive contributions to the student chapters of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP), American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) and/or the American Pharmacy Association (APhA).
Oliver M. Littlejohn Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
Orrin Skolnick Memorial Scholarship in Entrepreneurship is awarded to students with expressed an interest in entrepreneurship.
Patrick J. DeSousa Scholarship, in memory of Patrick DeSousa, is awarded to a PharmD student with a 3.0 or higher-grade point average with a moderate to strong interest in research and community and professional involvement.
Pharmacy Alumni Scholarship is awarded based on academic performance and involvement in extracurricular activities, community service or volunteer organizations.
Pharmor Scholarship is awarded based upon academic performance, financial need and leadership potential.
Phi Delta Chi Scholarship is awarded to active brothers of Phi Delta Chi Alpha Rho Chapter who demonstrate academic excellence and foster professionalism through the fraternity and other student organizations.
Publix Scholarship is awarded based on academic performance and financial need.
Rhett and Joyce Paul Endowed Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate financial need and preference is given to student who are from rural areas of Georgia.
R.I.S.E. Scholarship is awarded to a student who identifies on their admission application as African-American or Black who has a grade point average of 2.0 or higher, is their second, third, or fourth years of study, and is an active member of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA). When awarded to a third- or fourth-year student, positive and significant contributions to SNPhA in community service and/or leadership must be demonstrated.
S.S.S. Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
Sharp-Edwards Scholarship, in memory of Charles and Elizabeth Sharp and Thomas and Corrine Edwards, is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
Shobhna D. Butler Managed Care Pharmacy Endowed Scholarship is awarded to students interested in managed care pharmacy.
TBC Expendable Scholarship is awarded to one male and one female African American resident of Georgia who are members of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association.
The Kroger Pharmacy Endowed Scholarship is awarded to students with an interest in community pharmacy based on academic performance, financial need and leadership potential.
The Larry L. Braden Endowed Scholarship in Healthcare Entrepreneurship is awarded to students who demonstrate an interest in healthcare entrepreneurship.
Tony and Gloria Moye Scholarship is awarded to students who completed prerequisite courses or graduated from the undergraduate campus of Mercer University.
UCB, Inc. Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate an interest in working in the pharmaceutical industry.
Virginia M. and James H. “Red” Hall, Jr., Scholarship is awarded to a deserving student.
Walgreens Diversity and Inclusion Excellence Scholarship is awarded to students who embrace diversity and promote diversity and inclusion awareness initiatives on campus. Recipients must have a 2.5 or higher-grade point average, and preference will be given to current Walgreens employees.
Walgreens Multilingual Scholarship is awarded to students who are fluent in one or more languages in addition to English and have an interest in community pharmacy. Recipients must have a 2.5 or higher-grade point average, and preference will be given to current Walgreens employees.
Warner-Lambert / Parke Davis Scholarship is awarded to minority students who excel academically.
William A. Atkins Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
Wilmot “Bo” Harper Scholarship is awarded to students with an interest in community pharmacy and who have the potential for achieving a leadership role in the profession.
T. and Mareta A. Corley Endowed Scholarship is awarded to deserving pharmacy students.
Mercer University College of Pharmacy students are strongly encouraged to apply for scholarships awarded by external entities. The Office of Student Affairs notifies students of various scholarship opportunities, application requirements and deadlines. The list of external scholarships below is not all-inclusive, and students are encouraged to seek other scholarship opportunities.
The Tylenol Future Care Scholarship is awarded by McNeil, the maker of Tylenol, to well-deserving students pursuing a career in healthcare.
The American Pharmacists Association Foundation Student Scholarship Program recognizes students who choose to invest in their school’s APhA-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) chapter while shaping the future of pharmacy. This award is given to a second-, third-, or fourth-year professional student. Applicants must be active members of the APhA-ASP located in the United States and Puerto Rico.
The Express Scripts Scholars award recognizes students enrolled in a dual degree programs. Additional consideration may be given to low-socioeconomic status students as well as students who are underrepresented minorities.
The American Society of Health System Pharmacists Student Leadership Award Program recognizes students who represent the best attributes and accomplishments of the ASHP student. This award is given to second, third, or fourth-professional year students. In addition to other criteria, applicants must be an active member of ASHP in good standing.
The CVS Health Minority Scholarship for Pharmacy Students recognizes outstanding underrepresented minority students accepted into a Doctor of Pharmacy program OR are currently enrolled in their first professional year of a Doctor of Pharmacy program. Awardees must demonstrate leadership, academic success and a commitment to advancing the profession of pharmacy and patient care.
Fourth Professional Year Awards
Griffin B. Bell Award for Community Service
The Griffin B. Bell Award for Community Service is awarded by the University to a graduating student from any of Mercer’s 12 schools and colleges who exemplifies the true meaning of community service during their studies, has improved the lives of other through their dedication and commitment, and has contributed to the University and/or community.
Reuben C. Hood Award
This award is presented to students with the highest academic average at the end of the spring semester of the fourth-professional year.
Excellence in Public Health Pharmacy Practice
The U.S. Public Health Service presents this award to the graduating student who has demonstrated a commitment to public health and public health practice. This award is given to a student with outstanding performance in both academic and non-academic activities.
Facts and Comparisons Award of Excellence in Clinical Communication
Sponsored by Wolters Kluwer Health, provider of Facts and Comparisons and Lexicomp, this award is presented to a graduating student in the top 25% of the graduating class who has demonstrated superior verbal and written clinical communication skills.
Mylan Pharmaceuticals Excellence in Pharmacy Award
This award, sponsored by Mylan Pharmaceuticals, is awarded to a student in the upper 25% of the graduating class who demonstrates high professional motivation and the intent to enter practice upon graduation and who demonstrates superior proficiency in the provision of drug information services.
The Merck Award
This award is given to a student with outstanding performance in both academic and non- academic activities.
Outstanding Student Professionalism Award
This award is given to a student who exhibits the ideals of professionalism and excellence in patient care and who has demonstrated exceptional service and commitment to the profession through involvement in professional organizations and extracurricular learning opportunities.
