September
Dr. Chougule’s lab research work focused on targeted gene and drug combinations for lung cancer has been accepted for publication in the Molecular Therapy – Nucleic Acids, a Nature publishing group Journal. Congratulations to Laura and Chougule.

Dr. Chougule’s TransDGDR lab moved to the Department of Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery, Pii Center for Pharmaceutical Technology, National Center for Natural Products Research, the Research of Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy, University of Mississippi. Moving with great memories during the past 6 years at the University of Hawaii at Hilo’s Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy.

Dr. Chougule and two postgraduate students, Micah and Susanne attended AAPS annual meeting 2014 in San Diego. Congratulations to Dr. Chougule for his UH Travel Award, Susanne for the 2014 AAPS Formulation Design and Development Section (FDD) Travelship Award and Micah for the 2014 Alex Travel Award. Posters presented in this meeting were “M1210 – Onconase Loaded Albumin-Chitosan Hybrid Nanocarriers for Mesothelioma Therapy”, “M1039 – Formulation and Characterization of STAT6 siRNA Matrix-Loaded Gelatin Nanocarriers” and “W4332 – Modeling and Validation of Material Properties of Crystalline Particles: Formation and Stability under Stress.”
Dr. Chougule, Susanne, and Micah presented posters at the AAPS meeting.

Dr. Patrick Sinko (Associate Vice President for Research in the Office of Research and Economic Development, Rutgers University, and Distinguished Professor, Department of Pharmaceutics, Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, Rutgers University) visited our lab and College of Pharmacy. He presented “Intestinal Delivery of Nanocarriers: Targeting, Mechanisms and Translation”.

Congratulations to Nishant for his new position as Chair of the AAPS student chapter 2014-2015, Susanne as vice-chair, Micah as accountant, and Rongbing as secretary.

Dr. Chougule attended the NanoDDS meeting in 2014. He presented a poster “Design and Analysis Hybrid Onconase Nanocarriers for Mesothelioma Therapy”. He also delivered the invited talk “Targeted Nanocarriers for the Treatment of Cancer” at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Congratulations!!! Dr. Chougule has won the “Support of Competitive Research (SCORE) Research Continuance Award” for “Targeted Combination Therapy for Lung Cancer”. This proposal aims to develop, characterize, and evaluate the nanocarrier systems of siRNA in combination with chemo drugs for lung cancer treatment.
