Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowships
Mercer University College of Pharmacy has partnered with Galt Pharmaceuticals and Azurity Pharmaceuticals to offer Medical Affairs Fellowships in metro Atlanta.
Fellowships
Fellows will divide their time between the College and their respective pharmaceutical companies, where they will help advance the clinical development of various products and support medical and scientific affairs as products move from development to commercialization. These fellowships are primarily designed to provide the candidate with in-depth experience in medical affairs and will focus on the development of skills that will be valuable as graduates transition into a career in the pharmaceutical industry. Fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in teaching activities in the College’s Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) didactic program.
Applications from candidates in a Pharm.D. degree program or a graduate degree program are sought for the July 2025 – June 2026 cycle. Applications must include:
- letter of intent
- curriculum vitae
- an unofficial transcript from a graduate/professional degree program (Official transcripts will be required upon acceptance into the fellowship program to confirm degree conferral.)
- letters of recommendation from two references.

Galt Pharmaceuticals
Applications are now CLOSED for this fellowship.
Galt Pharmaceuticals is a unique pharmaceutical company seeking to serve unmet healthcare needs. The company applies pharmaceutical, managed care, and marketing expertise to develop, license, and acquire pharmaceutical products for distribution, partnering with independent pharmacies to deliver patient-centered, community-driven care. Galt is the first and only pharmaceutical company to utilize a franchise model, trademarked as “phranchise,” allowing entrepreneurs to build their own pharmaceutical business locally rather than the centralized, corporate model of traditional pharma.
The fellowship is a one-year experience concentrated on medical affairs, involving various experiences in medical information, scientific communications, and field medical support. Fellows will also have the opportunity to be involved in cross-functional projects with regulatory, marketing, and commercial operations. In addition, the chosen applicant will work alongside Galt’s two cofounders, CEO Barry Patel, PharmD ’92, who co-founded and later sold the pharmaceutical outcomes research and education company Total Therapeutic Management and chairman Wade Smith, PharmD ’88, both of whom are Mercer graduates.
