Dr. Lydia Newsom Elected to National Leadership Role in AACP Pharmacy Practice Section
Dr. Lydia Newsom, Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the Mercer College of Pharmacy, has been elected Chair-Elect of the Pharmacy Practice Section of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) for the 2026-2027 term.
This election marks the beginning of a multi-year leadership commitment within AACP. Dr. Newsom will serve as Chair-Elect from 2026–2027, Chair from 2027–2028, and Immediate Past Chair from 2028–2029. Through this progression, she will help guide the Section’s strategic direction, priorities, and initiatives.
The AACP Pharmacy Practice Section is the largest section within the organization, representing more than 2,000 faculty members nationwide. Its members lead education and scholarship in pharmacy practice and the clinical sciences, advancing the profession through innovation in teaching methods, curriculum design, and evidence-based practice. The Section also promotes the generation of new knowledge through independent and collaborative research focused on the pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, sociological, and therapeutic dimensions of clinical drug use.
“Dr. Newsom’s election reflects the high regard her peers across the country hold for her leadership, expertise, and dedication to service. Her work consistently bridges education, practice, and scholarship, and her voice has helped shape conversations around how pharmacy education can best prepare future practitioners for a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape,” said Dr. Pam Moye, interim dean of the College of Pharmacy and Immediate Past Chair of the AACP Pharmacy Practice Section.
Dr. Newsom will play a key role in advancing dialogue, fostering collaboration, and supporting faculty engaged in pharmacy practice education and research nationwide.
