QUESTION: Does pharmacy school require MCAT / PCAT?

So, you’re aiming for a career in pharmacy – a fantastic choice! But navigating the admissions requirements can feel like deciphering hieroglyphics, especially regarding standardized tests. Do you need the MCAT or the PCAT? Let’s shed some light:

  • MCAT (Medical College Admission Test): Designed for aspiring doctors, the MCAT assesses knowledge in biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, and critical thinking skills.
  • PCAT (Pharmacy College Admission Test): Tailored specifically for pharmacy school hopefuls, the PCAT focused on math, verbal reasoning, reading comprehension, science (biology, chemistry), and writing skills.

Which One Do You Need?

We’ll make it easy for you: Neither. For years, taking the Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) was optional for admission to Mercer. As of January 10, 2024, the PCAT was officially retired. The MCAT was never required for admission.
